Programme Director
Dr. Edward Wickham is a leading figures in choral music, recognised for his expertise as a conductor, educator, and scholar. Currently, he serves as Director of Music at St Catharine’s College, University of Cambridge, where is a Fellow and Dean. At Cambridge, he oversees both student and children’s choirs in College. Under his leadership, these choirs have gained international acclaim, regularly recording, touring, and broadcasting, including appearances on BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4.
As a scholar and pedagogue, Dr. Wickham has made significant contributions to choral education at Cambridge, where he has delivered courses on music history, choral skills, and was Director of the prestigious Master’s course in Choral Studies. His innovative approach extends to outreach and engagement, reflected in his founding of The Oxford and Cambridge Singing School in 2013. This programme, originally based in the UK, now delivers choral courses internationally, with branches in the Far East and Australia.
Dr. Wickham’s musical journey began as a chorister at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, followed by studies at Harrow School and Christ Church College, University of Oxford, where he was a choral scholar reading History. He later completed his Master’s at King’s College London and earned his PhD in 15th-century sacred music.
In addition to academia, Dr. Wickham is an award-winning conductor. As founder and director of the renowned vocal ensemble The Clerks, he has made over two dozen recordings, including the Gramophone Early Music Award-winning performances of Renaissance repertoire. The ensemble has performed at major festivals across Europe and the United States, and its work has been praised for its contribution to both early and contemporary choral music.
