English Bridging Camp for Secondary (Day camp)

The English Bridging Camp programme is designed to help upper primary learners build a solid foundation in English for academic success. Using the innovative Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach, this programme integrates core subjects like science, geography, and writing to advance vocabulary, grammar-in-context, and confident speaking.

Participants will make noticeable progress in academic vocabulary, reading comprehension, structured writing, and presentation skills. This programme is ideal for CEFR A2-B1 learners preparing for the transition to secondary education with a focus on academic achievement.

About Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)

CLIL is a dynamic teaching approach that combines subject learning (such as science, geography, or history) with language development. Rather than teaching language and academic content separately, CLIL integrates them, enabling students to simultaneously build subject knowledge and language proficiency in an engaging and practical way.

For students learning English as a second language, CLIL is especially effective. By embedding language learning into real-world topics, students acquire vocabulary, grammar, and communication skills in meaningful contexts. This approach boosts motivation, fosters critical thinking, and enhances academic language proficiency, such as structured writing, summarising, and presenting. Through collaborative tasks like debates and projects, students also gain confidence in using English for real-life communication, preparing them for academic and social success.

About the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is an international standard for describing language ability. It describes language ability on a six-point scale, from A1 for beginners, up to C2 for those who have mastered a language. This makes it easy for anyone involved in language teaching and testing, such as teachers or learners, to see the level of different qualifications. It also means that employers and educational institutions can easily compare our qualifications to other exams in their country.

There are 6 levels:
• Beginner A1–A2
• Intermediate B1–B2
• Advanced C1–C2

A1 English level
Level A1 corresponds to basic users of English who can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases.

A2 English level
Level A2 corresponds to those users who can understand basic expressions and communicate in a simple manner.

B1 English level
Level B1 corresponds to users who can understand and produce text on familiar topics and give opinions and descriptions.

B2 English level
Level B2 corresponds to users who can produce clear, detailed text and interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity.

C1 English level
Level C1 corresponds to users who can express themselves fluently and spontaneously. They can use language flexibly and effectively for all purposes.

C2 English level
Level C2 corresponds to proficient users of English, who can understand and express virtually everything with ease and differentiate finer shades of meaning.
