2026 AO Summer Camp
English Immersion Camp (Residential & Day Camp)
English Immersion Camp (Residential & Day Camp)
English Immersion is a structured, academically purposeful programme designed to deliver visible, measurable gains in spoken confidence, reading comprehension, and writing quality within one intensive week. It goes beyond “English activities” or test drilling. Students learn to use English as a working language—to explain ideas, read for meaning, write with structure, collaborate, and present with clarity—supported by explicit teaching, disciplined practice, and continuous feedback.

Programme Highlights
1. A Clear Educational Aim
The programme is built around one integrated aim:
Speak Confidently → Read for Meaning → Write with Structure → Think in English.
Across 5–6 days, students use English continuously and purposefully to explain ideas, interpret texts, collaborate with peers, and present with precision. The focus is on clarity, accuracy, and transfer—so learning holds beyond the programme. Every student leaves with visible evidence of progress, not just increased exposure.
2. AgeAppropriate Depth
Students are placed into age bands first, then grouped by ability to ensure appropriate pace and challenge:
- Junior (Ages 8–10): Developing classroom English, reading stamina, paragraph writing, and presentation skills
- Prep (Ages 11–13): Expanding academic vocabulary, rhetoric, discussion skills, and essay structure
- Senior (Ages 14–16): Advancing highlevel writing, seminarstyle discussion, argumentation, and examstyle performance
3. Three Integrated Learning Strands
Learning runs daily through three connected strands:
- Oracy & Communication – pronunciation, fluency, listening accuracy, discussion, and presentation confidence
- Reading & Writing for Academic Success – vocabulary and grammar in context, reading strategies, structured writing, and editing
- Culture, Ideas & Independent Thinking – British cultural content, literature, current issues, reasoning, and debate
4. Academically Structured Modules
The programme is delivered through a series of academically structured modules:
- Oracy & Pronunciation Lab – developing clarity, control, and confident delivery
- Vocabulary & Grammar in Context – improving accuracy through meaningful communication
- Reading for Meaning – analysing, inferring, and discussing texts with evidence
- Writing Studio – planning, drafting, editing, and refining structured writing
- Rhetoric, Discussion & Debate – expressing ideas persuasively and responding under pressure
- Culture & Texts – engaging with British culture, literature, and ideas through language
5. Signature Experiences
- Daily Speaking & Presentation Routines: Frequent, structured opportunities to speak and be heard
- Sentence Upgrade & Writing Clinics: Guided editing sessions that visibly raise the quality of written work
- EvidenceBased Text Discussions: Students justify interpretations using textual evidence
- Debate Ladders: Progression from short responses to structured, formal debate
- Residential “Living English” Immersion: Continuous English use through sport, activities, and boarding routines
6. The English Progress Tracker
Throughout the week, each student completes an English Progress Tracker capturing:
- Speaking confidence targets and endofweek performance
- A personal vocabulary bank with usable sentence frames
- Two polished writing pieces showing tracked improvement
- Reading logs and comprehension strategies applied
- Presentation notes, delivery feedback, and teacher summary with nextstep recommendations
This portfolio provides credible academic evidence of growth and is shared with families during the final showcase.
