2025 AO WInter Camp

Galactic Ambassador Camp (Day Camp)

Galactic Ambassador Camp (Day Camp)

The Galactic Ambassador Camp is an immersive, story-driven adventure set in the year 2040, where young explorers join the prestigious ‘Galactic Welcome Committee’ on a vital mission: to create a promotional campaign that invites alien tourists to visit Earth.

This unique programme seamlessly integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) into an exciting, hands-on experience. Over five action-packed days, participants will decode alien messages, engineer solar-powered technology, design spacecraft, chart star maps, and present their innovative campaign at the Galactic Summit.

Programme Highlights

Each day, participants will embark on a special mission designed to challenge their creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork. These hands-on, story-driven tasks will immerse students in STEAM learning, where they’ll solve exciting problems and apply their skills in meaningful ways.

Mission 1: Galactic Greeting – Crafting Earth’s Cosmic Commercial

  • Key Subjects: Cryptography, Linguistics, Art, Collaboration
  • Participants will decode intercepted alien signals and design Earth’s official response.
  • They’ll create a 30-second multilingual "Cosmic Commercial," using sound effects and creativity to showcase Earth as a must-visit destination.

Mission 2: Solar Power Quest – Build the Space “Sunflower”

  • Key Subjects: Thermodynamics, Engineering, Geometry, Energy Conversion, Data Analysis
  • Students will experiment with solar energy and engineer a rotating solar tracker to broadcast Earth’s cosmic invitation.
  • Teams will compete to design the most efficient solar-powered transmitter.

Mission 3: Starship Engineering – Construct the Return Capsule

  • Key Subjects: Aerodynamics, Material Science, Mathematics, Iterative Design
  • Using recycled materials, participants will construct a VIP Arrival Craft capable of safely landing a fragile "egg-stronaut."
  • They’ll test and refine parachute designs in an exciting landing competition to ensure a smooth touchdown.

Mission 4: Cosmic Navigation – Guide Tourists to Earth

  • Key Subjects: Geometry, Ratios, Navigation, Resource Management, Creativity
  • Students will craft a detailed star map to guide tourists from a neighbouring star system to Earth, avoiding cosmic hazards.
  • They’ll test their navigation skills in a simulation, balancing resources like fuel and oxygen to complete the journey efficiently.

Mission 5: Galactic Summit – Pitch the Earth Campaign

  • Key Subjects: Systems Thinking, Public Speaking, Collaboration, Environmental Awareness
  • Participants will assemble their creations into an impressive "Mission Command Centre" booth.
  • Each team will deliver a persuasive pitch to "Alien Delegates," showcasing their work and answering questions in a dynamic Q&A session.
  • The programme concludes with the celebratory signing of the “Treaty of the Stars”, where students pledge to protect Earth as a premier galactic destination.

Learning Outcomes

  • A Multi-Disciplinary STEAM Education: Gain exposure to a wide range of academic disciplines, applying scientific principles to imaginative, real-world challenges.
  • Hands-On Exploration: Develop practical skills in engineering, solar energy, aerodynamics, cryptography, and navigation through engaging, hands-on activities.
  • Development of Essential Life Skills: Build vital 21st-century abilities such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and public speaking, ensuring readiness for future opportunities.
  • Creativity and Critical Thinking: Approach complex challenges with creativity and logic, fostering innovation and boosting confidence.
