The Summer English Academy offers a structured, highquality English learning experience grounded in international school pedagogy, while remaining engaging, supportive, and accessible for local learners in China. Delivered entirely in English, the programme places strong emphasis on confidence-building, enjoyment, and steady language progression across age groups. Learning is carefully scaffolded to support students at different stages of English development, ensuring that younger learners build strong foundations while older students strengthen practical communication skills in a motivating and achievable way.

Fees include

For day camps, the fee includes study materials, providing the necessary resources for each student's daily activities and learning experiences.

Please be aware that transportation to and from the camp, flight tickets, visa fees, and personal travel insurance are not included in the camp fees and should be arranged separately by the participants.

Pedagogical Principles

Across all age groups, the programme will: 

  • Use English as the primary language of instruction in a supportive, encouraging environment 
  • Be informed by phonics and structured language development 
  • Emphasise spoken English and listening as the foundation for reading and writing 
  • Employ interactive, experience-based learning rather than textbook-led teaching 
  • Use creative tasks, games, and projects to build confidence 
  • Provide clear learning outcomes and positive, meaningful feedback 

Programme Details

Age 4–6 | Phonics & Language Discovery

Core Focus:

  • Introduction to phonics (letter sounds, blending, segmenting)
  • Listening and pronunciation
  • Speaking in simple words and phrases

Learning Approach:

  • Phonics taught through songs, rhythm, and physical movement
  • Story-based learning using classic fairy tales and picture books
  • Role-play, puppetry, and sound games to reinforce language
  • Craft and creative activities linked to sounds and stories

Intended Outcomes:

  • Recognition and production of key phonetic sounds
  • Confi dence in responding to and using spoken English
  • Positive emotional engagement with English learning

Age 6–8 | Oracy, Vocabulary & Early Writing

Core Focus: 

  • Development of clear pronunciation and spoken confidence 
  • Vocabulary expansion through storytelling and themes 
  • Introduction to guided reading and simple sentence writing 

Learning Approach: 

  • Structured story exploration and dramatisation 
  • Vocabulary games and collaborative challenges 
  • Guided writing activities with visual support 
  • Simple creative writing tasks (e.g. story endings, character descriptions) 

Intended Outcomes: 

  • Ability to retell stories orally using appropriate vocabulary 
  • Improved reading confidence and comprehension 
  • Growing independence in written English 

Age 9–11 | Verbal and Written Communication

Core Focus: 

  • Building confidence and clarity in spoken communication 
  • Strengthening written comprehension and vocabulary development 
  • Listening to analyse information for verbal discussion and written summary

Learning Approach: 

  • Guided group discussions and collaborative tasks to practice spoken English
  • Project-based learning with written and verbal outputs
  • Listening activities followed by verbal reflection and written analysis
  • Integrated tasks that require both teamwork in speaking and coordination in writing  

Intended Outcomes: 

  • Increased confidence and proficiency in spoken English
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend, discuss, and write about written and spoken texts
  • Effective use of English for collaborative work, combining verbal exchange and written planning

Age 12–14 | Creative Writing and Expression

Core Focus: 

  • Everyday spoken communication and fluency 
  • Reading for general understanding and key ideas 
  • Simple, structured writing for self-expression 

Learning Approach: 

  • Communication-focused activities such as role-play, interviews, and guided conversations 
  • Reading short, accessible texts connected to students’ interests 
  • Creative tasks such as storytelling, short scripts, posters, or digital-style presentations 
  • Small-group projects that encourage cooperation rather than formal debate 

Intended Outcomes: 

  • Greater confidence using English in everyday situations 
  • Ability to understand and respond to short written texts 
  • Willingness to express ideas creatively in spoken and written English

End-of-Programme Assessment & Feedback

At the conclusion of the programme, students will complete a light, age-appropriate assessment task, such as: 

  • Phonics and speaking activities (Age 4–6) 
  • Short oral presentations or group projects (Age 6–11) 
  • Creative communication tasks or short presentations (Age 12–14) 

Each student will receive:

  • Individual written teacher feedback highlighting progress, strengths, and confidence gains 
  • Clear and positive guidance on next steps for continued English development 

Rewards & Recognition 

To celebrate achievement and motivate learners: 

  • All students will receive a Certificate of Participation 
  • Selected students may receive recognition awards, such as: 
    - Confident Communicator 
    - Most Improved English Speaker 
    - Creative English Award 

A short closing reflection and celebration session will mark the end of the programme, reinforcing confidence and positive learning experiences.
