2026 AO Summer Camp
GameChangers United: Epic Mini-Game Quest (Day Camp)
GameChangers United: Epic Mini-Game Quest (Day Camp)
GameChangers United: Epic MiniGame Quest is an immersive five-day collaborative game design experience where students aged 9–11 become creators of dynamic digital worlds. Working in small teams, students design, build, and refine a series of original minigames inspired by classic arcade mechanics and modern interactive play, exploring how movement, rules, feedback, and player choice come together to shape engaging gameplay experiences.

Programme Highlights
- A FiveDay GameDesign Journey with Purposeful Themes
Students progress through a carefully sequenced series of gamedesign themes—exploration and movement, growth and survival, speed and strategy, collection and risk, and creative synthesis—each designed to deepen both technical understanding and design thinking.
-Exploration & Movement: Building Interactive Worlds
Students design games such as Pixel Pioneer and Fruit Frenzy Harvest, focusing on player control, navigation, timing, and visual customisation.
- Growth, Competition & Survival: Designing Dynamic Systems
Through games like Hungry Dot, Berry Blizzard, and Sprout Sprint Showdown, students experiment with scaling, competition, and resource management, learning how systems evolve in response to player actions.
- Speed, Strategy & Cooperative Play: Thinking Under Pressure
Fastpaced challenges including Shadow Shifter, Chaser Chaos, and Twin Turbo Dash encourage students to develop strategic thinking, quick decisionmaking, and collaborative problemsolving.
- Collection, Risk & Reward: Balancing Challenge and Motivation
With games such as Orbital Outrunner, students design collectionbased mechanics that balance difficulty, reward, and player engagement.
- Creative Synthesis: The Grand Game Jam & Showcase
In the final phase, students bring everything together through DreamDot Creator and Friend Frenzy Remix, refining ideas, remixing peers’ games, and presenting polished creations in the Big Reveal Showcase. - Collaborative Coding Studio
Students work in teams to plan, code, test, and refine mini‑games, developing communication skills and learning how to co‑create digital projects. - From Playing Games to Designing Systems
Participants explore how rules, feedback, rewards, and player choices shape gameplay, encouraging them to think like designers rather than just players. - Creative Ownership and Customisation
Students design characters, visual styles, and game mechanics, ensuring each project reflects their imagination and personal ideas.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the programme, students will:
- Design and Build Interactive Game Systems: Understand how movement, rules, variables, and player feedback work together to shape gameplay experiences.
- Collaborate Through Coding: Work effectively in teams to plan, code, test, and improve games, developing communication and shared problemsolving skills.
- Apply Creative and Strategic Thinking: Design original mechanics and solve increasingly complex challenges involving timing, competition, and decisionmaking.
- Embrace Iteration and Feedback: Test ideas, refine code, and improve designs through playtesting and peer critique, building resilience and confidence.
- Communicate Ideas with Confidence: Present final projects clearly, explain design choices, and reflect on learning during the showcase experience.
