Mandarin Communication and Public Speaking (Half-Day Camp)

Mandarin Communication and Public Speaking (Half-Day Camp)

This Mandarin immersion summer programme is grounded in the internationally recognised Production‑Oriented Approach (POA). Designed around a “Learn–Apply–Create” daily cycle, it moves beyond traditional instruction to support meaningful, real‑world communication. Students aged 6–12 are grouped by proficiency and engage in an active mix of language learning, cultural immersion, and hands‑on tasks—from navigating digital payments in Beijing to creating and presenting Peking Opera mask designs—connecting traditional culture with contemporary Chinese life.

Programme Highlights

Designed for Young Global Learners

  • Expert-led small groups: Each class maintains a 1:6 teacher-student ratio, with all lead instructors averaging 4+ years specializing in teaching Mandarin to children through games, songs, and interactive storytelling.
  • Safety-first excursions: Off-campus activities operate with a 1:4 staff-to-student ratio, ensuring a secure yet exploratory environment.
  • Culturally adaptive teaching: Educators are skilled at supporting students from diverse linguistic backgrounds, fostering an inclusive and encouraging classroom atmosphere.

Authentic “Classroom-to-Community” Learning

  • Every language lesson is directly tied to a real-world task—whether it’s ordering food at a local eatery, bargaining in a market, or explaining the history of a Beijing hutong.
  • Activities blend traditional workshops (calligraphy, paper-cutting) with modern life experiences (using Alipay, shared biking, conducting street interviews), making language usable from day one.

Structured Yet Flexible Daily Flow

  • A balanced schedule offers 2.25 hours of immersive Mandarin instruction and 3 hours of applied cultural activities daily, paced to sustain engagement without overwhelm.
  • The “Prepare → Explore → Produce” framework ensures students progress from comprehension to creation, ending each day with a tangible outcome—a presentation, a role-play, or a project showcase.

Learning Outcomes

Practical Mandarin Proficiency

  • Master 100+ theme-based vocabulary items and 15–20 high-frequency sentence patterns for daily interactions such as greetings, purchasing, and describing experiences.
  • Move beyond textbook phrases to confidently navigate real-life scenarios—from buying subway tickets to interviewing locals.

Cultural Confidence & Creative Expression

  • Gain firsthand insight into both traditional arts and contemporary Chinese life, building not just language ability but cultural adaptability.
  • Develop presentation and storytelling skills in Mandarin through structured “output tasks” like designing a cultural poster, performing a short play, or explaining a visited site.

Visible Learning Evidence & Progress Tracking

  • Progress is assessed through performance-based outputs: role-plays, project presentations, and creative showcases—all documented and shareable with parents.
  • Each student leaves with a personal portfolio of language and cultural accomplishments, illustrating growth in communication, creativity, and cross-cultural understanding.
